Heqiang “Alfred” Huo earned his Ph.D. at the University of Georgia and completed his postdoctoral training before joining the University of Florida. He is currently an Associate Professor of Technology Development and Plant Breeding with the Crop Transformation Center in the Department of Horticultural Sciences, University of Florida/IFAS. Dr. Huo has more than twenty years of experience in molecular biology and biotechnology. His research focuses on translating insights from model plant species to improve genetic transformation and CRISPR-based gene editing, particularly in recalcitrant crops. He has filed three patent applications related to plant transformation and transgene-free gene editing. Over the past decade, Dr. Huo has published more than 50 scientific articles in high-impact journals such as PNASThe Plant CellPlant Biotechnology JournalThe Plant Journal, and Plant Physiology. His team also works on trait enhancement using genomic sequencing, bulked segregant analysis (BSA), transposon tagging, and genome editing.
