As a member of the Wylde Center Greenspace Team, the Site Coordinator manages and maintains the Edgewood Garden & Coan Garden. The Site Coordinator will oversee general upkeep and beautification of the spaces, engage in community outreach, participate in shared Greenspace Team projects, and lead volunteer workdays.

Job Duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure aesthetic appeal and development of the gardens by performing fine gardening tasks such as pruning, planting, transplanting, and weeding
  • Work with the Greenspace Director to implement new design elements
  • Manage seasonal vegetable production in demonstration beds; distribute vegetables to local food pantry and/or community members
  • Oversee general upkeep of the Edgewood Garden including, but not limited to, weeding, leaf blowing, sweeping, pest management, and garbage disposal
  • Manage the general maintenance of the community center located at Edgewood, reporting any facility issues to Greenspace Director; be available as primary contact for the onsite security system
  • Monitor the safety conditions of both sites, ensuring that the gardens are always ready for the public
  • Attend to pest control, such as mosquito treatment and fire ant control with types of treatments agreed upon with Greenspace Director
  • Coordinate the care of the resident chickens and honeybees with the support of community members
  • Liaise with community plot holders, providing support and education when needed
  • Fulfill all duties related to being a member of Wylde Center staff which includes attending staff and Greenspace team meetings, leading workdays, and participating in Wylde Center hosted community and education events
  • Engage in community outreach by attending monthly neighborhood meetings to give garden and organization updates. Work with Greenspace Director to engage with neighborhood sub-committees aiming to improve the block surrounding the garden
  • Work with community members and Wylde Center’s events department to support community events
  • Execute work at other Wylde Center greenspaces when necessary, including but not limited to participating in weekly team work days.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of horticultural practices and seasonal planting, including propagation and natural pest management
  • Advanced knowledge of gardening tools and equipment, ability to manage maintenance of this equipment
  • Strong project management skills and ability to proactively achieve timelines
  • Enjoys working with volunteers of all ages; enjoys working with community members
  • Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times
  • Punctual and self-directed; able to work independently as well as participate in and lead team projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Google Drive and Google applications to support successful planning, record keeping and coordination with vendors, team members and partners.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Light construction and carpentry skills
  • Basic animal husbandry skills
  • Experience managing large scale garden enterprises
  • Formal Horticulture education preferred but not required


ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work in a professional office setting for a portion of the work week
  • Ability to work outside in extreme temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Compensation: $18 per hour

Schedule: Part time, 25 hours per week. Flexible hours with regular weekend and occasional evening work


Work Location: Edgewood Garden & Coan Garden, both located at 1503 Hardee Street NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30317
