This is a professional position responsible for managing the daily operations of the groundskeeping staff of Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens at the Historic Bamboo Farm (CGBG). This position answers directly to the Director of the CGBG.

Daily tasks expect independent judgement of the employee with input from the Director of the CGBG. This position directs and supervises the daily operational activities of the CGBG horticulture staff.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
· Thorough knowledge of all phases of horticulture, plant propagation, cultivation, nursery                        management, and landscape design.
· Understanding the principles of supervision and human resources management
· Working understanding of UGA fiscal policies, procedures and protocol
· Working understanding of UGA human resources policies, procedures and protocol

Physical Demands
Working in various venues at the CGBG requires working outside in demanding physical environments both winter cold and summer heat. Heavy lifting such as equipment and supplies, up to 80 pounds. Driving.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field.  Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Job Duties

Supervise Grounds Staff, Manage time keeping, leave approval. Schedule and conduct regular staff meetings. Percentage of time 20 Manage daily maintenance of the CGBG including the grounds, buildings, horticultural features, and ponds. Responsible for the design and establishment of demonstrations, new gardens, and garden features. Managing the maintenance of CGBG equipment and current garden displays and features. Percentage of time 40 Outreach and Extension: Conduct, plan, and prepare public educational horticulture program Answer walk-in, phone, and email horticulture questions related to the CGB Conduct tours of the CGBG as scheduled by the Events Department Design, implement, and supervise Extension Demonstrations Enter programmatic data for CGBG into GA Counts Percentage of time 30 Responsible for interviewing, screening and hiring recommendations of CGBG horticulture staff positions as positions become available. Assist the Director of the CGBG with annual performance reviews of all employees
