Director of USAID\u2019s President\u2019s Malaria Initiative to speak at UGA April 14\u00a0<\/p>\n
Over the six years that Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer has led the USAID President\u2019s Malaria Initiative, malaria deaths worldwide have fallen by nearly half.<\/p>\n
Called one of the \u201cmost quietly\u00a0successful\u201d leaders in public health today, Ziemer has aligned the efforts of aid groups working to end malaria, insisted on accountability for outreach funding and helped reduce the impact of a disease that sickens almost 200 million people annually and kills between 500,000 and 600,000 a year.<\/p>\n
Ziemer will share the lessons he\u2019s learned from this journey and his plans for the future on\u00a0Tuesday,\u00a0April\u00a014, at UGA from 4-5:30 p.m. with his lecture \u201cPresident’s Malaria Initiative: The\u00a0US\u00a0Government’s Commitment to the Global Malaria Fight.\u201d This lecture is\u00a0free and open to the public, and it will be held in Masters Hall at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education on UGA\u2019s Athens Campus.<\/p>\n
The UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the College of Public Health and the Georgia Regents University-UGA Medical Partnership are hosting the lecture.<\/p>\n
