The NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NEPAD Agency’s Skills and Employment for Youth Programme (SEFY) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) – Decent Rural Employment team in the Social Policies and Rural Institutions Division (ESP)) are holding a series of webinars on rural employment and child labour in agriculture. The webinars will showcase lessons learned from the field and generate discussion to highlight existing challenges and opportunities to reach scale and impact.

Rural youth employment: Emerging challenges and targeted solutions will be held Wednesday, 28 February from 9 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time (2 p.m. GMT).

This webinar aims to:

  • Raise awareness and sensitize on the importance of addressing emerging issues related to rural youth employment in Africa and beyond;
  • Present FAO and NEPAD experiences and lessons learnt at country level;
  • Showcase and discuss good practices and tailored responses to emerging issues, e.g. success factors for entrepreneurship development at local level; radicalization, et

Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) has the youngest population in the world, with more than 60% of the 960 million population below the age of 24. That means that at least 10 million additional jobs are needed every year to absorb the new entrants into the labor market.
