POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION AVAILABLE ON FUNGAL PATHOGENS IN VEGETABLE CROPS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
(UNDER DR. BHABESH DUTTA)

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position focused on advancing knowledge of fungal biology, epidemiology, management, and fungicide resistance in pathogens affecting vegetable crops. The focus of this position will be on multiple pathosystems that affect vegetable crops in Georgia including Alternaria brassicicola (brassicas), Botrytis squamosa and Stemphylium spp. (onions), and Colletotrichum spp. and Fusarium spp. (cucurbits). Using classical mycology, fungicide sensitivity testing, genomics, and bioinformatics, the successful candidate will conduct lab-based research and lead field and greenhouse trials to develop practical disease management strategies against these pathogens. Prior experience in fungal biology, excellent track record on publishing peer-reviewed articles, and be open to work with a multi-disciplinary team are required. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-impact projects that blend advanced scientific approaches with practical solutions for agricultural challenges. Key responsibilities
- Conduct independent research to investigate fungicide resistance mechanisms.
- Design and execute field and greenhouse trials to evaluate hypotheses.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across multiple states to assess cultural practices that reduce disease loss in vegetable crops.
- Take leadership in data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
- Engage with industry partners and present research outcomes at conferences.
- Support the PI with federal grant proposal preparation and submission.
