California<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We traveled to the other side of the country to California! This was the start of many collections across the United States, so we can get an accurate representation of the entire Angus population. We are collecting both rumen and fecal samples from every animal to take a snapshot into the microbial populations of these host animals. The bulls utilized in our project have their feed intake recorded as well as their pedigrees documented, so this allows us to make connections with the microbes to feed efficiency and then allows us to predict how well the next generation will perform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iowa <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Dean Pringle and Dr. Jeferson Lourenco led a team of six graduate students across the midwest. Iowa was the first stop in a 2 week sample collection endeavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Montana was great way to end our two week trip! We had a furry friend help us move cattle. We sure do love what we do!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We traveled back to Iowa, but this time we had to layer up! Collecting samples is a bit harder when you can barely feel your fingers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We all collectively agreed this was the coldest we have ever been! This was the first time we have seen frozen saliva on cattle. The Nebraska cold air had us missing Georgia!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the Georgia Bulldogs won the 2022 National Championship, we headed back to Montana! We had a wonderful time collecting samples ad enjoying the mountain views!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
