Eight CAES students were honored as the 2021-2022 CAES Alumni Association Scholars. The freshman, transfer and graduate scholarships are funded by the UGA CAES Alumni Association Eterna endowment. The East Georgia alumni chapter also has an endowed scholarship that provides funds for one scholarship.

Why did you choose to attend CAES?
While I am not the first to attend college in my family, I will be the first to be attending to pursue my dreams and interests. My love of the sciences and specific chemistry was perfectly balanced with my passion for food through my major in Food Science.

Through this support, I hope I can spend more time helping others and spending time outdoors. I am so thankful for being chosen and can not wait to pursue my education through UGA!

Why did you choose to attend CAES?
One of the reasons I chose UGA is because it is one of the only universities in Georgia with the major I want to pursue. I will be majoring in Food Science. I have many college and professional goals I plan to achieve. I hope to be able to improve the quality as well as the availability of food to a great population of people.
What thank you message would you like to send to people who provide financial support to CAES?
I am immensely grateful to have the opportunity to attend college. With this opportunity, come the expenses of college. The gravity of this expense can be a scary thing to handle. This scholarship would alleviate some financial burden from my family and I am extremely honored to receive this award. Thank You!

What is your favorite part of being a CAES student?
Even in a pandemic, I was welcomed to a community and family in CAES that has gone above and beyond to support me. I have been blessed with amazing professors in my CAES classes and have fallen in love with organizations like Block and Bridle and Young Farmers and Ranchers within the college.

Why did you choose to attend CAES?
When planning on attending UGA, there was no other college that I wanted to be a part of but CAES. I chose the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences to find a mentor that I could be involved in and contribute to their research endeavors.
How has this scholarship impacted your educational experience at CAES?
When I chose to attend the University of Georgia, it was my dream school, but I did not believe it was an option. The reason I thought UGA was not an option was due to my family’s financial obligations.

What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to become a feed sales representative. I have always enjoyed traveling to new places and with this type of occupation I will be able to travel a lot.
How has this scholarship impacted your educational experience at CAES?
This scholarship has impacted not only my life as a CAES student, but my life as a whole by helping take off some of the burden of cost as many fellow students worry about. Also, I would like to add that transferring from a small school in Fort Scott, Kansas can be intimidating and receiving this scholarship has truly made me feel welcomed.

How is your CAES education preparing you for life after graduation?
CAES have shown me how to work with different animals and how some animals work internally which allows me to understand them better.
What is your most memorable CAES experience so far?
My favorite part of being a CAES student is getting to do things with the animals, especially the dairy cows. I was surprised by how cuddly and nice they were.
