Out of State & International sample
MDL is now accepting out of state & international samples for molecular disease diagnosis and quantification. Call/email for the copy of the permit/certificate and prices prior to shipping the samples: +1-229-386-7230/229-386-3070 or mail to emran.ali@uga.edu/ali.mdl@uga.edu
ALL SAMPLES received from out-of-state or international will be assessed an additional 50% surcharge.

Instructions  for sample submission:

  • The accuracy of testing for plant pathogens depends upon the quality of a plant sample submitted for analysis. Please follow these guidelines (in general) for collecting and submitting a sample to the MDL.
    1. Submit freshly collected specimens showing the range of symptoms that you observe.
    2. Provide adequate amounts of plant materials, including roots, top growth, and fruit (if available).
    3. Try not to send dead plant material and keep samples refrigerated after collection until they are submitted.
    4. Complete the submission form and provide as much information as possible about the sample.
    5. Place the specimens in a plastic bag and clearly label the outside of each bag with a permanent marker. For leaf or stem tissue, place the sample in a zip-seal bag as soon as it is collected. Send samples via overnight delivery.
    6. If you include multiple bags in a package, clearly indicate whether each bag corresponds to a separate test, or whether the bags simply represent multiple samples for the same test.
    7. To prevent damage during transit, use cardboard boxes and add packing material such as newspaper. Do not use paper bags.
    8. Make sure you submit the respective diagnostic fee (payable check to MDL).
    9. Send sample Monday through Wednesdays to any of these address:
