By January 1st (Preliminary Activities)

  • Have visited your assigned Student Teaching site and met with your cooperating teacher
  • Identify your personal work area
  • Identify classes and units that you will be teaching
  • Learn about resources available (media, library, community, e–mail, etc.)
  • Obtain class rosters, seating arrangements, daily schedule, etc.
  • Secure copy of the school policy manual and a map of the area
  • Familiarize yourself with the rules of the school, department, and classes
  • Review discipline procedures with cooperating teacher and develop rules for your classes
  • Become acquainted with safety procedures – fire drill, tornado drill, active shooter drill
  • Identify students with special learning needs and meet with appropriate personnel
  • Establish housekeeping expectations – norms for office operator
  • Determine appropriate dress code for teachers with cooperating teacher
  • Determine your expected work hours with cooperating teacher
  • Update teaching philosophy and résumé

 1st Week

  • Visit with administration, teachers, community, etc.
  • Observe classes of instruction; Prepare/edit lesson plans for 1st and 2nd classes
  • Complete, with cooperating teacher, your Student Teaching Experience Plan (p. 21-23) and email to your university supervisor by the end of the first week
  • Conduct at least one SAE visit with cooperating teacher
  • Assist cooperating teacher with FFA and other activities
  • Submit weekly reflective journal to university supervisor (by Midnight Friday)
  • Begin or continue work on edTPA submission

2nd Week

  • Assume teaching responsibilities for 1st class
  • Observe other classes of instruction
  • Secure teaching materials for next class or classes
  • Complete Task 1 of your edTPA Portfolio
  • Conduct at least one SAE visit with cooperating teacher
  • Meet with cooperating teacher daily
  • Submit weekly reflective journal to university supervisor

 3rd Week

  • Continue observing/co–teaching classes with the cooperating teacher
  • Tape edTPA lessons and cut video segments
  • Conduct edTPA assessment
  • Assist cooperating teacher with FFA and other activities
  • Meet with cooperating teacher daily
  • Submit weekly reflective journal to university supervisor

4th Week

  • Continue observing/co–teaching classes with the cooperating teacher
  • Complete written portions of Task 2 of edTPA portfolio
  • Assist cooperating teacher with FFA and other activities
  • Meet with cooperating teacher twice a week
  • Submit weekly reflective journal to university supervisor

5th Week

  • Continue observing/co–teaching classes with the cooperating teacher
  • Prepare Task 3 written portion of edTPA Portfolio
  • Assist cooperating teacher with FFA and other activities
  • Meet with cooperating teacher twice a week
  • Submit weekly reflective journal to university supervisor

6th Week

  • Continue observing/co–teaching classes with the cooperating teacher
  • Finalize Task 3 written portion of edTPA Portfolio
  • Assist cooperating teacher with FFA and other activities
  • Meet with cooperating teacher twice a week
  • Submit weekly reflective journal to university supervisor

7th Week

  • Add 2nd class to your teaching load
  • Continue observing/co–teaching classes with the cooperating teacher
  • Finalize and edit complete edTPA Portfolio
  • Plan for 3rd, 4th & 5th classes
  • Assist cooperating teacher with FFA and other activities
  • Meet with cooperating teacher twice a week
  • Submit weekly reflective journal to university supervisor

 8th – 15th Week

  • Add 3rd, 4th, & 5th classes (as directed by cooperating teacher & university supervisor)
  • Teach a full load for a minimum of 5 weeks
  • May move to less frequent conference schedule if directed by cooperating teacher (minimum of one conference per week)
  • Plan lessons of instruction
  • Conduct at least one SAE visit with cooperating teacher
  • If appropriate, conduct one SAE visit without cooperating teacher
  • Assist cooperating teacher with FFA and other activities
  • Submit weekly reflective journals to university supervisor

16th Week

  • Teaching duties as agreed upon by supervisors and intern
  • Assist in preparing for summer activities
  • Secure material that will help in employment
  • Plan for transition of classes back to cooperating teacher
  • Complete mock interview with school administrator
  • Prepare final materials for cooperating teacher
  • Submit weekly reflective journal to university supervisor

17th Week

  • Complete additional assignments as directed by university supervisor
  • Complete Student Teaching portfolio (handbook)
  • Complete teaching duties & full transition back to cooperating teacher (grades, students’ projects, etc.)
  • Attend the Georgia State FFA Convention in Macon, GA and serve as advisor to them

April 25th  

  • Final Student Teaching seminar and program evaluation at the Georgia FFA State Convention.
